Fellows that attended the Flyby
Five MESSENGER Educator Fellows served as the voice of the MESSENGER mission to Mercury during the spacecraft’s historic flyby of its target planet on September 29, 2009. The Fellows attended the flyby events at the Mission Operations Center and the Science Operations Center and reported on their experiences in real time.
Through the Fellows’ eyes, the whole world was able to experience the flyby as seen from the MESSENGER Mission Operations Center, as well as share the scientists’ excitement as new data arrived on the days following the flyby. They continue to report on new data and images using social networking sites and other Web 2.0 tools.
