My excitement for science began during my student teaching when the 3rd graders made faux seashell fossils. They were so proud of their accomplishments; they described the process of making them and showed them off to everyone. It’s hard to believe that was 21 years ago. My “teachable moment” from that experience is that we need to bring these experiences into our classrooms. As a current K-5 Science Lab teacher at the Morgantown Road Elementary school in Fayetteville, NC, my goal is to provide as many real-world applications to my students as possible. As a MESSENGER Educator Fellow, I believe that many students and colleagues will benefit from the knowledge that I will obtain through these NASA experiences.
